In a year that’s already seen Black Panther, Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War, with Ant-Man and the Wasp, Aquaman, and Venom all still on the way, the return of Pixar’s favourite family is still one of the year’s blockbuster highlights. Much like the first film, the new sequel tackles a lot of the biggest comic book tropes, but for fans heading to the cinema there’s one they really want to know about: does Incredibles 2 ape Marvel’s finest and throw in a secret scene after the credits? Incredibles 2 is now long gone from most cinemas, which means it’s time to watch it at home. In the US you’re able to buy a digital copy, and a DVD, Blu-ray or 4K UHD copy. If you’re in the UK you can buy the digital edition or the Blu-ray, 4K or DVD.
Is there a post credit scene?
The answer is yes… sort of. In that if you wait to the veeeeery end of the credits, you’ll get an extremely brief 2D tease of a certain villain. Read on if you want to find out what it is (with spoilers, naturally) but if you don’t want to know exactly what it is, know this: it’s probably not worth sticking around all the way through the credits just for this scene, unless you’re a fan of watching the credits anyway
What is the Incredibles 2 end credit scene?
If you’ve been paying attention ahead of the film’s release you’ll probably know that Incredibles 2 picks up right where the first film let off, with the sudden arrival of the villainous Underminer in a gigantic drill. The fight against the Underminer makes up a chunk of the film’s first act, as the Parrs do their best to stop the drill, prevent him from robbing a bank, and catch him for good measure. Without giving too much away, it doesn’t go entirely according to plan, and the Underminer manages to escape in the chaos. His return is what’s teased after the credits roll, but it’s not a full scene at all: it’s a brief (like, 5 seconds brief) stylised 2D animation of his drill rolling across the screen. That’s it. So yeah, it teases that he’s still out there, and potentially sets up his return in an Incredibles 3 (writer/director Brad Bird has already said he has a few ideas for such a sequel), but if you skip the credits you really won’t miss much.
